[CASE STUDY] Paul van Dyk — From German Import to UK Chart Success
by: Geremy O'Mahony
Objective
Paul van Dyk’s early tracks were gaining underground momentum, but lacked a UK release strategy and national media traction. The aim was clear: break him into the UK market, secure chart placements, and build a long-term presence across press, radio, retail, and international media.
Process
After hearing “Beautiful Place” played by Judge Jules on KISS FM, I stepped in and was offered the General Manager role at his new UK label — overseeing retail, radio, TV, and press. We released “Beautiful Place”, followed by “Forbidden Fruit” and “Words”, gradually climbing from Top 80 to Top 50 chart positions. I travelled extensively — from New York to Berlin — networking with global tastemakers and building relationships with UK and international media to position Paul as a major artist, not just a niche name.
Outcome
After three years of consistent, strategic groundwork, “For An Angel” broke into the UK Top 20 — a huge moment for both Paul and the label. The follow-up compilation, “Vorsprung Dyk Technik,” went on to sell over 200,000 copies. The PR and media strategy didn’t just drive chart success — it laid the foundation for Paul’s global profile and long-term career.
Testimonial
“Getting ‘For An Angel’ into the UK Top 20 national charts took three years of hard work and Geremy at Natural Born PRs was instrumental every step of the way. His dedication and strategic approach were key to the track’s breakthrough. The follow-up compilation, ‘’Vorsprung Dyk Technik’s’ success wouldn’t have been possible without Geremy’s tenacity and expertise.”
